LION VALERIE BURNINGHAM, 1VDG
Lion Valerie Burningham’s Lions journey began in 1986 when she joined the Windsor Downtown Lioness Club. She served in many Club positions as well as in the District. In 2003, when the Windsor Lioness Club folded, she was invited to become a Lion with the Windsor Downtown Lions Club. She, once again, served on several committees as well as Board positions all the way up to being the First female President during the 90th Anniversary year. She has served in District positions, Zone Chair for 2 years and Leader Dog for the Blind Chair for 7 years. Lion Valerie is currently VDG, looking forward to working closely with the District A1 team & members. COVID-19 is simply another challenge that we are learning to overcome as we continue to move forward and learn a new normal. VDG Valerie Burningham will encourage open communication because that’s how things happen as “We Serve.” Lion Valerie has been married to Mark for 52 years. They have 4 children, 12 grandchildren, 1 grand-angel, 3 soon to be 4 great-grandchildren. Lion Valerie proudly watched Mark, as his sponsor, get inducted into Lions during the Canada-World Wide Virtual Induction ceremony. |

LION EVELYN SPIERING, PDG
Lion Evelyn joined the Lioness Club of St Thomas in 1982 where she held many positions within the club as well as numerous District Chair positions until reaching the position of Lioness District President in 1990-91 where she was introduced to the Youth Exchange Program by attending the closing of Camp. When the Lioness Club in St. Thomas folded, she transferred to the Delaware Lioness for a few years, also becoming their Club’s President. Lion Evelyn joined the Lions Club of St Thomas in 1996 and quickly got involved with their casino nights, bingos and many other activities and fundraisers within the club. Lion Evelyn also has been active at the District Level chairing Youth Exchange programs after first becoming involved as camp cook. She quickly moved up to Zone, Region Chair, Vice District Governor and eventually became District Governor in 2009-10 under the International President Eberhard Wirfs with the Theme “Move to Grow”. Lion Ev has received numerous awards including several International Presidential Certificates of Appreciation, the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1999 and becoming a Progressive MJF in 2016, a Life membership with Lions Foundation of Canada and again becoming a PLF in 2010, the Governor Excellence medal in 2010, a Helen Keller Award in 2016, the Rob Spiering Leadership Award in 2016 and the Presidential Medal in 2017. Besides her involvement in Lions, Lion Ev has recently retired from the Retirement Home where she was employed for 27 years, served as a member and eventually President of a Child Care Centre Board, the Easter Seals Society District Board as well as numerous other board commitments. Lion Ev was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1963. Lion Ev and her partner in service Lion Rick have two daughters, one son, 5 grandsons and 3 grand daughters. In her spare time (yeah if she has any), she plays darts (not well). Currently the 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Evelyn is the Candidate for the position of 1st Vice District Governor for 2021-2022 |
